Elizabeth Ruhl, PsyD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Elizabeth (“Liz”) Ruhl is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in health psychology, bringing both clinical expertise and genuine compassion to every therapeutic relationship. With a deep commitment to evidence-based care, they draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness to help clients navigate life's most challenging moments. Dr. Ruhl works exclusively with adults, with a particular passion for supporting those facing acute or chronic health conditions. Their areas of specialty include health psychology, psycho-oncology, chronic pain, bereavement, anxiety, coping skills, and life transitions.
Dr. Ruhl believes that real, lasting change happens when you feel genuinely seen and supported. They approach therapy as a collaborative process, where clients are an equal voice in shaping their own care and treatment direction. Building trust is central to their work — creating a space where honesty and openness can lead to meaningful progress. Dr. Ruhl practices with a deep commitment to inclusivity, incorporating culturally responsive, LGBTQI+ affirming, and neuro-affirming approaches to ensure every client feels welcomed and respected. Outside of the therapy room, they enjoy spending time with family and staying active through running — a reflection of the same values of balance and self-care they bring to their work.
Education & Experience
Dr. Ruhl earned their doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology with a Health Psychology Emphasis from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Francisco, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Development from California State University, Monterey Bay. With over a decade of clinical experience, they have worked across a range of settings including integrated primary care, palliative care, oncology, and private practice.
Dr. Ruhl's training has been deeply aligned with their current specialties. Their internship at UCSF San Francisco General Hospital and post-doctoral fellowship at California Pacific Medical Center provided formative experience across integrated primary care, breast cancer, general oncology, cardiac rehabilitation, and neuro-gastroenterology — laying the groundwork for their expertise in health psychology, psycho-oncology, and chronic pain. Having worked extensively with individuals facing serious and life-altering health conditions, Dr. Ruhl has developed a deep appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit, which continues to inform the care and compassion they bring to every client.
