Miriam Cervantes, PsyD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Miriam Cervantes is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in health psychology. Her therapeutic approach integrates mindfulness-based interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and self-compassion practices to support clients in developing greater psychological flexibility, emotional awareness, and meaningful behavior change. She utilizes a holistic and systemic perspective, recognizing the ways in which culture, identity, relationships, and lived experiences shape each individual’s mental health.
Dr. Cervantes has extensive experience working with LGBTQ populations, mothers, and new parents. As a Latina bilingual psychologist, she is especially passionate about serving Latino communities. She is committed to creating an affirming culturally responsive space where clients feel seen, respected, and understood. In therapy, she emphasizes both emotional processing and practical change—helping clients build insight while also taking steps toward living in alignment with their values. Her style is warm, personable, and collaborative.
Before her career as a mental health clinician, Dr. Cervantes was a sexual health educator and worked for organizations such as Planned Parenthood teaching health education in classrooms, community centers, universities, and churches. Her experience as an educator shaped and inspired her decision to pursue graduate school to become a psychologist.
Education & Experience
Dr. Cervantes received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She completed her postdoctoral training at Kaiser Permanente Northern California, where she specialized in perinatal mental health, including pregnancy loss, anxiety or depression during pregnancy, postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, and traumatic labor and delivery. During her time there, she established and led communication classes for new and experienced parents.
Prior to this, Dr. Cervantes completed her internship at Pacific Psychology Comprehensive Clinic, an APA-accredited site, where she provided individual psychotherapy services to adults presenting with depression, anxiety, grief, and suicidal ideation. Additionally, she conducted ADHD and learning disability psychological assessments for adults.
Dr. Cervantes completed a practicum at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in the Behavioral Medicine track, where she provided therapy to adults and adolescents with medical conditions such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, chronic pain, and eating disorders. She also provided individual therapy at Radiant Health Centers (RHC), a nonprofit organization that serves individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. There, she led groups in both Spanish and English on topics including mindfulness, expressive arts interventions, and support for individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Cervantes feels honored to support individuals throughout their healing journey and believes she has as much to learn from her clients as they do from the therapeutic process.
