Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Allison Bicksler is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in pain and health psychology. An expert on the biological, psychological, and environmental inter-relationships that affect complex medical conditions and psychological/emotional health, Dr. Bicksler provides assessment/evaluation and psychotherapy for adolescents, adults, and seniors. An engaged and invested clinician, Dr. Bicksler challenges her patients to grow while supporting them with unconditional kindness and humor.
Dr. Bicksler has extensive experience treating a wide range of conditions. Unlike practitioners of health or clinical psychology alone, Dr. Bicksler is comfortable working with patients who may have difficult medical and emotional challenges. These may include mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, chronic pain, and other chronic and/or serious health conditions. Focusing on the whole person rather than the condition(s), Dr. Bicksler is a passionate, energetic provider who works creatively with her patients to meet their goals.
She favors evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal process therapy (IPT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). As appropriate, she incorporates components of other therapies, such as family systems, psychodynamic, dialectical behavior, and trauma-informed therapies. Through this work, patients take ownership of their health, gain knowledge about their condition(s), and develop greater mastery, authenticity, and joy in daily life.
Education & Experience
Dr. Bicksler earned her Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology. She completed her predoctoral internship at the University of California, Riverside, followed by a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical health and neuropsychology.
For nearly ten years, Dr. Bicksler was a member of the Medical Staff at Providence St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, CA, where she consulted on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit and served on the Physician Well-Being and Behavioral Health Steering Committees. She also worked in Providence St. Jude’s interdisciplinary Chronic Pain Program from 2015-2024. During that time, she led initiatives to expand pain psychological services to the outpatient Pain Management and Women’s Health centers and supervised several doctoral trainees.
Dr. Bicksler is a candidate for Board Certification in Health Psychology (ABPP/ABCHP) pending oral examination. She has been on the Board of the American Association of Pain Psychology (AAPP) since 2023. She is an experienced clinical supervisor and has mentored a number of doctoral students specializing in health psychology. She has presented at conferences and provided lectures to both professionals and laypersons.
