Amin Salek, Psy.D.

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Amin Salek’s journey into psychology was shaped by both professional training and personal experience. After earning his bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from UCSD, he pursued medical studies at UW Madison School of Medicine. However, his own struggles with chronic pain and illness led him to explore the intricate connection between mind and body. His introduction to psychosomatic medicine became a turning point, inspiring him to shift his focus to psychology.

As an immigrant from Iran who moved to the U.S. at the age of 17, Dr. Salek brings a unique perspective to his work. His personal experience navigating different cultures has deepened his understanding of the diverse factors that influence mental and physical health. Fluent in both Farsi and English, he is committed to providing culturally competent care that acknowledges the complex interplay of identity, culture, and health.

Education & Experience

Dr. Salek obtained his Doctoral and Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology from Loma Linda University, specializing in health psychology. He completed his internship at the Wright Institute’s Integrated Health Psychology Training Program (IHPTP), where he worked in multiple medical clinics as a primary care psychologist providing holistic treatment for a diverse patient population.

For his postdoctoral training, Dr. Salek joined IMCES, where he continued to work in multidisciplinary settings alongside physicians, case managers, nurses, and specialists. This work further reinforced his understanding of how psychosocial factors influence chronic illness, pain, and overall well-being, and he remains committed to providing integrative, holistic care to underserved populations.

Dr. Salek’s work has been further enriched through collaborating with Dr. John Sarno, a pioneer in psychosomatic medicine, and earning certification in Pain Reprocessing Therapy and CBT Academy. These experiences have equipped him with cutting-edge approaches to treating chronic pain and mind-body disorders. Dr. Salek offers a wide array of evidence-based treatment modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT, Somatic Experiencing Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy. His mission is to help individuals transform pain into strength, guiding them toward lasting recovery and well-being.
