Sharon Ng, Ph.D.
Registered Psychological Associate
Dr. Ng loves her profession in psychology because she sees it as an invitation to join patients in their journey of healing, growth, and resiliency. Her goal is to create a space for patients to come as they are, find renewed strength, gain insights and hone coping skills to empower them to live with intention and fulfillment. Dr. Ng encourages patients to befriend themselves by calling out and appreciating their unique inner strengths and resources.
Dr. Ng is a strong believer of holistic care. She works from a biopsychosocial-spiritual model approach, integrating models and techniques that best meet patients’ unique needs, including CBT, EMDR, ACT, IFS, mindfulness, somatic interventions, attachment-based therapy, positive psychology, psychodynamic therapy and an integrative medicine approach. She is very interested in the integration of faith and psychology, and she practices faith-based therapy with patients whose faith is important to them in their journey of healing.
Education & Experience
Dr. Ng holds both her Doctorate and Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Rosemead School of Psychology and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wellesley College. In her doctoral program, she wrote her dissertation on a longitudinal study on childhood bereavement, looking at what helped pre-adolescents and adolescents with adjustment over the first two years of bereavement. As part of her clinical training, she completed an APA-accredited internship at the Metropolitan State Hospital and trained at a variety of settings such as the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and the University of California, Irvine Counseling Center.
Dr. Ng had over 15 years of experience working as a clinical psychologist in Asia. She has worked across a range of settings including private practice, university research center, private medical group, and schools. She has served as a consultant, mentored and taught graduate-level students, and collaborated with medical professionals, mental health professionals, social workers, and teachers. Since her return to the U.S., she has undertaken advanced post-doctoral training in medical specialties, including geropsychology and gastro-psychology.
Promoting the concept of wellness has been one of Dr. Ng’s core passions. She sees resiliency as a key to wellness - adapting to challenges in different seasons of life, relating responsively to others, and engaging healing mechanisms of the body, mind, and spirit. A seasoned speaker and trainer, she has given talks and conducted workshops for communities and corporations on parenting, social-emotional development, healthy coping and character virtues. She understands the stress of parenting, and she has helped many parents in Asia find balance, let go of guilt of feeling not good enough, regulate their own emotions, and focus on building parent-child relationships.
Her style is collaborative and warm, with respect and sensitivity to patients’ multi-cultural backgrounds. She has extensive experience working with people from different cultures and international backgrounds. Bilingual in English and Chinese, Dr. Ng provides services in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
